Brighton is a fantastic place for a night out; a day with the family; a weekend away; a hen or stag party; a birthday party; and place to live. There are no end of exciting things to do in Brighton; sometimes it’s hard to make a choice. The pebbled beach, Brighton Pier and the Royal Pavilion are probably the most iconic sights that come to mind. You’ll also find hundreds of great pubs, clubs and restaurants to suit all tastes and interests. But if you want to try something different and make your visit really memorable, why not head to The Bewilder Box Initiative at The Hobgoblin Pub on York Place in central Brighton?
Located right next to London Road, The Hobgoblin pub is easy walking distant from the city centre and right in heart of the action. This quirky award-winning pub is a favourite with Brighton locals and has a lot to offer. It has a fabulous, all-year-round beer garden that is covered and heated in the winter and a sun trap in the summer. It has a wide range of drinks available behind the bar, including a range of craft beers and ales and a photo booth onsite. In addition to this, and most exciting of all, The Hobgoblin is home to Brighton’s best escape rooms – The Bewilder Box Initiative.
The Bewilder Box Initiative is a live action gaming experience like no other and suitable for anyone who likes to have fun and is up for a challenge. You and a team of up to 7 people will work together to complete a series of puzzles, clues and challenges in the 60 minute allotted game time. Because of its location, The Bewilder Box Initiative is also perfect for larger groups, who can make up multiple teams and play one after another. While one team plays, the other team(s) can while away an hour or so with a drink or something to eat downstairs in The Hobgoblin bar or beer garden, whilst they wait for their turn in The Box. Create an element of competition at the end and compare times and raise a pint or two to the team that reign victorious.
The experience itself is fully immersive from the moment you’re greeted in the bar by your eccentric host and taken upstairs to The Bewilder Box Cognitive Training Facility. Your mission will be assigned to you by your host, who will entertain you throughout and guide you through your escape room experience. There will be someone else on hand as well, so don’t worry if you get stuck. You can always ask for a hint or clue from our in house super computer D.A.V.E. and if you’re lucky, he may also tell you a joke or two, if you ask him nicely. Throughout the 60 minute game, you and your team will play your parts in The Bewilder Box Initiative’s interactive storyline that features Hugo Myatt (star of legendary 80’s TV game show, Knightmare). You’ll navigate your way around The Box, find clues, solve puzzles and work as a team to escape.
The Bewilder Box Initiative is a real labour of love. All the puzzles are custom made and entirely different, ensuring there’s something for everyone to sink their teeth into. Most of the puzzles will require you to use your brain, but others will require you to your eyes, your ears and even your nose. Each time you solve a puzzle, a clue, code or item will lead you on to the next challenge that will help you progress through the room. Each little detail in The Bewilder Box Initiative adds to the immersion and the experience. And to top it all off Bewilder Box escape rooms are ranked number 1 on TripAdvisor for funs things to do in Brighton, so you can’t argue with that!
